"How do you do? My name is Miles and I study European war history in the University of Manchester.

I am very well aware of the great war history of your country and would like to see with my own eyes the war sites of your Winter War and Continuation War. I have been blessed with possibility to visit your country next summer in July.
Would you be so kind and supply me with an inclusive list of the war sites worth visit in the province of Eastern Finland?
In addition, would you please give me a short description of those?
Yours, Miles"

Hello Miles!

I am pleased to hear that you are interested about Finnish history! Here's three places you should definetely visit while staying in FInland:

Infantry Museum
Jääkärinkatu 6-8
50100 Mikkeli
jalkavakimuseo.mikkeli@surffi.fi
Entrance fee: Adults 8€, Students 4€
Open in summertime daily at 10-17

Founded in 1982, task of the museum, maintained by the Infantry Foundation, is to collect, store, examine and put on display military material which has belonged to the infantry. The Museum is housed in two wooden barracks built in the 19th century.

Headquarters Museum
Päämajankuja 1-3
50100 Mikkeli

This building was used during Winter War and Continuation War as a Headquarters house for defence force. Unfortunately you can't go inside because of maintain work.

Border General's House
Parppeintie 4 C
82900 Ilomantsi
parppeinvaara@ilomantsi.fi
Entrance fee: 7€
Open in June and August at 11-17, in July at 10-18

In this house the legendary general Erkki Raappana gave commands and also lived. It is unique because the furniture and the house are original ones. In same area there are lots of other museums too.

Sincerely yours
Sari Kallio
